Life As I See It

Mountains Or Ocean

As much as I love to sit on the beach and absorb the serenity of the waves crashing into the sand time and time again.  The hot sun and the cool breeze, at the same time, beating on your skin, putting you in a place of tranquility…..I detest the smell of rotten fish and the flies hovering around, just waiting to get a taste of your juicy flesh.

I spent the past two weekends at the Jersey Shore.  I don’t see the desire people have for this place.  The first weekend it rained all day, Sunday and Monday.  There is nothing worse then being at the Shore when it rains.  Except, being at the Shore when it rains.  There is nothing to do and no where to go.  Everything feels wet and sticky and all you do is sit around and eat all day.

The second weekend was beautiful.  Saturday afternoon I drove down without a worry in the world.   I was on the beach by three.  I thought I was in heaven until… the breeze blew just the wrong way and the smell of stench ripped through my nose like a tornado through the dessert.  The sound of children crying because it’s dinner time and the parents want to stay just a tiny bit longer, makes my head spin and my teeth grind.  The water is just nasty, there is nothing that can describe the filth that water has in it.  I wouldn’t let my worse enemy swim in that pond scum.  The beach was covered in broken shells, almost slicing the bottom of my feet.  My head filled with congestion as I breathed in the vapor filled air caused by all the gas powered amusements and the advertisement planes that go by every half hour.  A vacation like that is unhealthy and not good for the soul.

I prefer the mountains.  The crisp clean scent of nature.  The stillness of the night sky.  When it rains the camp fire dries the air around it, letting you rejoice, in what would of been a wash out anywhere else.  The congestion of people are limited to a minimum.  The beach covered lakes are well kept and have a distinct essence of peace and harmony.  The scenery is breath taking and the stars illuminate, bright in the sky, as if you could reach out and touch them.  The days are filled with warmth, from the sun and the nights glisten with calmness from the moon.

That is what I call a vacation.  Peace, relaxation, cut off from the world, when time stands still and your mind has nothing on it except bliss.  ahhh, paradise.
